Detoxifying face and body mask
Bentonite clay, known for its detoxifying properties, is a natural way to cleanse and revitalize the skin, scalp, and underarms.
When applied to the skin, the clay works as a magnet, drawing out impurities, excess oil, and toxins. It can help unclog pores, promote skin clarity, and improve overall skin texture.
This mask recipe combines the absorbent power of bentonite clay with the purifying effects of apple cider vinegar and optional tea tree oil, providing a deep cleansing experience. The addition of raw honey offers a touch of hydration and soothing to counterbalance the potential drying effect of the clay.
You can also use this Ayurvedic remedy for the scalp and underarms to reduce excess oil and enhance freshness.
Regular use of this detoxifying mask can leave your skin feeling rejuvenated and revitalized.
Bonus tip: I love using these masks before getting into a warm tub. Letting the mask wash off in the bath adds for extra detoxifying.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons bentonite clay
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon water (adjust for desired consistency)
2 drops tea tree oil (optional, for added antibacterial properties)
1 teaspoon raw honey (optional, for soothing and moisturizing)
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
Mix Bentonite Clay: In a non-metallic bowl (this is important!), combine the bentonite clay with the apple cider vinegar, honey, and tea tree oil. You can also add your favourite natural moisturizer if you want a creamier texture. It is normal for the clay to fizz and bubble as it reacts with the vinegar. Mix well, doing so will prevent the paste from getting clumpy when adding water.
Add Water: Gradually add water to the clay mixture, stirring continuously, until you achieve the desired consistency. This should be thick enough to spread easily but not too runny.
Application on Face and Body: Apply the clay mask to your clean face and/or body, avoiding the delicate eye and mouth areas. Allow the mask to dry for about 10-15 minutes.
Rinsing: Once the mask is dry, rinse it off with warm water. Gently massage your skin while rinsing to exfoliate. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
Scalp Treatment: For a scalp treatment, section your hair and apply the clay mixture to your scalp. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and shampoo.
Hydrate: After rinsing, apply a light moisturizer to your face, body, and any treated areas to keep your skin hydrated.
